The Department of Classics, Greek, and Latin at Wayne State University is authorized to hire a tenure-track assistant professor, to start in August 2006. We seek a person holding a PhD in classics or the equivalent who is qualified to teach a broad range of courses in Greek and Latin language and literature, and who has an active research program in Latin literature (preferably mainstream Latin poetry), with high potential for significant publication. Because the majority of the department's students enroll in courses in classical civilization, candidates should also have a record of demonstrable success in teaching aspects of classical antiquity to large and small classes. This position will increase the department's number of tenured or tenure-track faculty members to six.
