WELLESLEY COLLEGE – WELLESLEY, MA (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: The Department of Classical Studies at Wellesley College announces a definite tenure track Assistant Professor position in Latin literature to begin in September 2008.

We invite applications from candidates specializing in Latin literature and literary culture with an engaging and productive research program that complements the strengths and interests of the current faculty. Candidates must be prepared to teach at all undergraduate levels in Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilization (courses in English on a wide range of topics). Completion of the PhD by Oct. 1, 2008 is strongly preferred. The teaching load is two courses per term, salary and benefits are highly competitive, and a faculty member is eligible for a full year's research leave after reappointment before the tenure review. POSITION TWO: The department of Classical Studies at Wellesley College announces a definite tenure track Assistant Professor position in material culture to begin in September 2008.

We invite applications from field archaeologists, marine or land based, doing innovative, theoretically-informed and interdisciplinary work in the material culture of Greco-Roman antiquity. We prefer someone who has connections with an on-going archeological project who could involve Wellesley students in that project. We need someone who is able and willing to teach language courses on a regular basis as part of his/her teaching load in the department. We welcome applicants whose work focuses on maritime trade or marine archeology. Completion of Ph.D. by Oct. 1, 2008 is strongly preferred.
