WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY—MIDDLETOWN, CT
The Department of Classical Studies at Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the art and archaeology of Greece and the ancient Near East, to begin in July, 2011. We are especially interested in candidates whose research addresses issues related to the formation of cultural, social and ethnic identities, such as, for example, relations between the Greeks and other societies of the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond. Ideally, such research will be linked to an active program of field research. Candidates with expertise in the Black Sea region, Anatolia, the Near East, or Egypt are urged to apply. The successful applicant should be able to teach Greek at all levels and be willing to contribute to Wesleyan's Archaeology Program and Middle Eastern Studies Certificate and to cross-list courses, as appropriate, with the Department of Art and Art History. The teaching load will be two courses per semester, generally divided between Greek language and material culture. The PhD must be in hand (or completed, with only formal recognition to follow) at the time of appointment. Applications, including a letter of application, a CV, a writing sample (max. 25 pp.), and three letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically to https://careers.wesleyan.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=51285.  Questions may be directed to Michael Roberts, Department Chair, at mroberts@wesleyan.edu. Applications submitted by November 15, 2010 will receive full consideration. Interviews will take place at the annual APA/AIA meeting in January, 2011.
