Wesleyan University - Middletown, CT (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: A tenure-track position to begin in Fall 2002; the appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor, or possibly untenured associate professor. We will consider ABD's who will have the Ph.D. in hand by August 31, 2002. The principal area is Latin literature, preferably with a specialization in the Republican or Augustan period. The successful candidate should also be able to teach courses in Greek language and literature, and in Classical Civilization. The course load is 2-2. A complete application should consist of an academic dossier, a writing sample of no more than 25 pages, and at least three letters of recommendation. POSITION TWO: A one-year replacement at the rank of visiting instructor or visiting assistant professor for the 2002-2003 academic year with a specialty in Roman History and Civilization. The successful candidate will teach four courses (2-2), including a one-semester lecture survey of Roman history and two courses in Latin (intermediate and advanced). For the fourth course, applicants should propose a topic within their own area of expertise on some aspect of Roman civilization and/or material culture. The Department maintains close ties with Wesleyan's Archaeology Program and the Department of Art and Art History, so that courses of interest to students in all three would be especially welcome.
