The Department of Classical Studies at Wesleyan University invites applications for a new tenure-track assistant professorship, with the appointment to begin September 2003. We seek a specialist in Hellenistic culture and society. Possible areas of concentration would include one or more of the following: colonialism, ethnicity, religion and magic, gender and sexuality, ancient science and mathematics, urbanism and city planning, and cultural contact and assimilation. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach Greek and Latin through at least the intermediate level. Candidates should have the Ph.D. or equivalent in hand or very close to completion by September 1, 2003. For full consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, dossier -- current CV and graduate academic transcript, and at least three letters of recommendation -- and a brief (25-35 pp.) writing sample, by November 15, 2002. We will conduct interviews at the APA / AIA Annual Meeting in New Orleans in January, 2003.
