The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Classical Studies for the 2006-2007 academic year. The successful candidate will teach first year Greek both semesters, a survey of Greek archaeology in the Fall, and a lecture course on the archaeology of the City of Athens or similar topic in the Spring. Candidates also will have the opportunity to participate in Wesleyan’s Archaeology Program. Preference will be given to applicants who will have the PhD in hand by the time of appointment. POSITION ONE: Greek Archaeologist - The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Greek archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July 2006. The area of specialty is open, with some preference for the Archaic and Classical periods. An active program of fieldwork research is desirable. Successful candidates will be expected to participate actively in Wesleyan's Archaeology Program. Candidates should be able to teach Greek at all levels. The teaching load will be two courses per semester, with responsibility for teaching divided equally between language and courses in material culture. The PhD should be in hand or very near completion. POSITION TWO: Latinist - The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Latin literature at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July 2006. We seek a generalist with an interest in the literature and society of the Republican orAugustan period. Candidates should also be able to teach courses in Greek language and literature, as well as in Classical Civilization. The teaching load will be two courses per semester. The PhD should be in hand or very near completion. Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2006-07 at Wesleyan University’s Center for the Humanities, an institute devoted to advanced study and research.
