The Department of Classics announces a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to begin in September, 2002. The department seeks a generalist who can teach both Greek and Latin at all levels, courses in translation, topics in social and material culture, as well as courses in Great Books or the Western Tradition in the university's general education program. The Ph.D. in hand is essential and any area of expertise is welcome; publication is encouraged, although excellent teaching is the department's primary mission. Experience or willingness to lead student trips to Greece, Italy or Turkey, or to work with area high school teachers, or knowledge of computer technology in education a plus.
