The Classics Department at Xavier University, a Jesuit-Catholic institution, invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor. Applicants should have experience teaching Latin and Greek (especially lower- and intermediate-level language courses) and be prepared to teach courses in translation such as Greek civilization, Roman civilization, and Greek and Latin literature. Department of Classics - Assistant Professor. Xavier University, a Jesuit-Catholic institution, invites applications for an assistant professor tenure track position in the Department of Classics. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Classics at the time of application. Their primary training should be in Latin and Greek philology, but they should also have an understanding of the two civilizations that shows breadth and depth. Special consideration will be given to those with proven research interests in Greek and Roman philology. Teaching experience is required. The primary mission of the department is teaching at all undergraduate levels. Candidates will be expected to teach a variety of courses in Latin, Greek and classical civilization, in particular "Women in Antiquity" and "World Mythology," but be especially committed to text based instruction. The position may also include tutorials, individualized studies, and/or senior projects. In addition to teaching duties, the university expects candidates to be active scholars and to participate in university governance. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellent teaching and scholarship and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and students.
