#1.The Classics Department at Xavier University, a Jesuit-Catholic institution, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. Candidates must have a PhD in Classics and the ability to teach Latin and Greek at all levels of undergraduate instruction. Primary training should be philological, but candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of classical antiquity that shows breadth and depth and preparedness to teach courses in classical civilization, drama, and theater. Strong generalists with research interests in Greek tragedy or Greek poetry will be given priority. In addition to teaching duties, candidates are expected to remain active scholars by pursuing a specific research program with a goal of publishing, keeping abreast in the discipline, and participating in professional organizations. #2. Xavier University invites nominations and applications for an appointment to the Ethics/Religion and Society Chair. The distinguished professorship will be awarded for a period of one to three years, as determined by mutual agreement of the University and the appointee.

The Chair of Ethics/Religion and Society is open to those teacher-scholars who have expertise in disciplines that have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods. Appropriate disciplines include philosophy, theology, religious studies, literature, cultural studies, history, and the fine arts. Applicants must already hold the rank of associate or full professor. Selection will be made on the basis of a strong record in undergraduate teaching and scholarly accomplishment. Each year the Chair will teach a total of three undergraduate courses over the course of two semesters that cultivate ethical and/or religious analysis. The Chair will also participate in the intellectual life of the university. Responsibilities include a public lecture and leadership of a faculty development workshop on a topic of the Chair’s choice.
