Besl Family Chair in Ethics/Religion and Society. Xavier University invites nominations and applications for an appointment to the Ethics/Religion and Society Chair. The Chair has been endowed in response to a challenge grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Distinguished professorships will be awarded for a period of one semester to three years, depending on the needs of the University and the interest of the candidates.

The Chair of Ethics/Religion and Society is open to those teacher-scholars who have expertise in one of the humanities or in other disciplines that have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods. Applicants must already hold the rank of associate or full professor. Selection will be made on the basis of a strong record in undergraduate teaching and scholarly accomplishment. Each semester the holder of the Chair will teach one or two undergraduate courses that integrate ethical and/or religious analysis of a socially significant issue and will participate in the intellectual life of the university.

Classics –Tenure-Track Assistant Professor –The Classics Department at Xavier University, a Jesuit-Catholic institution, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor for Fall 2005. Candidates must have Ph.D. in Classics in hand to apply and the ability to teach Latin and Greek at all levels of undergraduate instruction. Primary training should be philological, but candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of classical antiquity that shows breadth and depth and preparedness to teach courses in classical civilization, drama, and theater. In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to remain active scholars by pursuing a specific research program with a goal to publish, keeping abreast in the discipline, and participating in professional organizations.
