Annual Meeting Travel Stipends and New Registration Category

As previously announced, SCS is now accepting applications for annual meeting travel stipends. You may apply if you are a student, contingent faculty member, or unemployed and are: (a) presenting on the SCS program / organizing a session; or (b) serving on a SCS committee that will meet in San Diego. Click here for detailed guidelines and to apply. The application deadline is September 14, 2018.

Please note that for the purposes of the annual meeting travel stipends, SCS defines "contingent faculty" as anyone holding a non-tenure track position.

In addition, we are pleased to announce that this year we have agreed with the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) that we will offer a new registration rate and category for 2019. This registration rate will be available to those who are: (a) "contingent" in the sense that they do not receive healthcare or retirement benefits, and those based outside the US in part-time positions (who are covered by national benefit programs); and (b) to those who are unemployed and received their graduate degree in the last 5 years.

We realize that this is confusing because "contingent" is defined in different ways for the purposes of the travel stipends and registration. Furthermore, the definition of “unemployed” is more limited for the purposes of registration. We are sorry. The difficulty of defining categories consistently across two organizations has resulted in these differences and we hope to align the definitions and categories in future years.

We have agreed with AIA on the following registration rates in order to assist and subsidize adjuncts and early-career unemployed scholars who are in most need of financial assistance.

Member registration rates (SCS and AIA)

Early (on or before November 9)

  • Member: $170.00
  • Student Member: $57.00
