The Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (CAMS) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the fields of Latin language and literature, and Roman civilization, beginning August 2015. We seek candidates with active research in Latin prose, including but not limited to rhetoric, law, politics, and philosophy. In addition to developing courses in Roman politics, social culture, and ethics, teaching responsibilities will include Latin language and literature at all levels; the ability to teach courses in Greek at all levels is desirable. The department embraces within its purview the entire Mediterranean world in antiquity and therefore welcomes candidates who can contribute to dialogue across the fields of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. The ability to contribute to the Humanities in a Digital Age (HDA) Initiative currently underway in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State is also desirable, though not required. For information on the HDA Initiative, go to: http://sites.psu.edu/humanitiesda/. Requirements include Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment, demonstrated teaching experience, and evidence of scholarly publication(s) and productivity. Submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae (including contact information for three references), a sample of scholarly writing (no more than thirty pages), and evidence of teaching accomplishments at https://app2.ohr.psu.edu/Jobs/External/EVMS2_External/currentap1.cfm#53389. Please arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to the Latinist Search Committee, c/o Sandra Moyer, at sjm1@psu.edu.
