The Department of Classical and Modern Languages at Austin College invites applications for an entry-level, tenure-track position in Classics, beginning Fall 2015. Ph.D. in Classics required. We seek a Hellenist/Archaeologist who is able to teach Greek and Latin at all levels, classical mythology, and courses in Greek history and archaeology. We are especially interested in someone with a background in digital humanities, dedicated to continuing the program's innovative use of educational technology. Our program is also heavily involved with outreach and the successful candidate must be eager to participate in outreach with high schools and the general public. Commitment to and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching are essential.

The teaching load is three courses in each of two long semesters and one course in January Term every other year. Two of the three semester courses will usually be in Greek or Latin, and the third course will consist of one of our regular offerings in classical civilization or a special topics course. Classics faculty have taught a popular series of January Term courses in Greece and Rome in alternating years, and it is hoped that the person in this position would continue the Greece courses in some fashion. Classics faculty have been active in undergraduate research projects and there are numerous opportunities to integrate a research agenda with teaching and working with students. The College administers an endowed fund for faculty research and makes awards on a competitive basis.

Send letter of application, curriculum vitae, copies of graduate transcript(s), other supporting materials, and three recent letters of recommendation electronically, if possible, to classicssearch@austincollege.edu, or to Dr. Sheila Pineres, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Austin College, 900 N. Grand Avenue, Suite 6D, Sherman, TX 75090-4440. Review of applications begins November 15, 2014, and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates will be notified in early December of interviews at the Society for Classical Studies Annual Meeting in January, 2015.
