Certification with an endorsement in Latin

Grade Level of Certification:

K-12

Degree Requirement:

B.A.

Subject Matter Requirements:

No specific number of credits. Must demonstrate skills in reading comprehension, translation, grammar, syntax, and Classical culture. A Master’s Degree satisfies these requirements without an individual assessment.

Professional Training in Education Required:

No, but must demonstrate teaching ability.

Subject Test:

No designated Latin subject test. Must take Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST). Holders of Master’s Degree exempt from test.

Additional Requirements for Advanced Certification:

1. Hold an Experienced Educator Certificate from the State of New Hampshire (3 years of documented teaching experience).

2. Master's degree with coursework in subject area as well as curriculum development, supervision, and evaluation.

3. Demonstrated quality teaching to be satisfied by meeting the following professional criteria:

A. Quantitative evaluations of teaching quality from students, parents, peers, and administrators.

B. At least three classroom observations of the candidate by an independent observer from outside the candidate's school district.

C. At least four significant and rigorous written tasks and exercises.

4. At least seven (7) years of full-time experience as an educator in the Latin within the past ten years.
