The School of Humanities at Massey University, New Zealand is seeking to appoint an on-going (tenurable) Lecturer in Classical Studies, beginning in January 2015. The duties of the position are comparable with those of a Lecturer in the UK or an Assistant Professor in the US. This position replaces a retiring staff member and will expand the ongoing staffing from 2.5 to 3 FTE.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver a selection of papers in Classical literature taught in translation. Other areas of specialisation will also be considered. The position will be based at Massey’s campus in Palmerston North where papers are taught into the Bachelor of Arts. There may also be scope for the development of new innovative offerings that enhance existing provision within the Programme.

The Programme of Classical Studies teaches in internal and distance delivery modes with online or blended modes of teaching becoming increasingly important. The appointee will contribute to current undergraduate offerings initially. It is anticipated that a postgraduate offering will be developed in the near future.

The appointee will have an advanced qualification in the discipline, experience teaching at University level and an on-going research platform that will contribute to extending the research profile of Classical Studies at Massey University.
