The School of Humanities at Massey University is seeking to make a 3-year fixed term appointment (full time) for a lecturer in Classical Studies starting July 2016. The duties of the position are comparable with those of a Lecturer in the UK or an Assistant Professor in the US. This position will expand the staffing from 3 to 4 FTE. The position will be based at Massey University’s Albany campus in Auckland (currently rated as the 9th most liveable city in the world).

The successful candidate will be required to teach existing papers in both internal and distance mode. We especially encourage applicants with background in Greek history, literature and culture; experience in distance teaching is an advantage.

The Programme of Classical Studies teaches in internal and distance delivery modes with online or blended modes of teaching becoming increasingly important. The appointee will contribute to current undergraduate offerings initially. It is anticipated that a postgraduate offering will be developed in the near future.

The appointee will preferably have a PhD in the discipline by the time of the appointment, experience teaching at University level and an on-going research platform that will contribute to extending the research profile of Classical Studies at Massey University.

Closing date: 15 January 2016
