The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Classical Studies to begin August 9, 2015. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Classics or Classical Philology or will complete the degree by August 2015. We seek a scholar and teacher with a demonstrated record of scholarship and commitment to a program of research and publication in a field that complements the strengths of the Classical Studies Program. Candidates should show evidence of ability to teach Ancient Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels and courses in ancient Greek and Roman civilizations and Mythology. Preference will be given to candidates who show an ability to teach in large lecture and e-learning, distance education formats, and have a scholarly engagement beyond Latin and ancient Greek literature. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to program building, outreach across the university and state, and engagement with undergraduate students outside the classroom.

The Classical Studies Program, housed in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, comprises faculty from the departments of Foreign Languages and Literatures, History, and Art History. Normal teaching load is two classes each semester.
