The Department of Classics at the University of Virginia is pleased to announce a search for a Hellenist to fill the Hugh H. Obear Chair of Classics. We are seeking to maintain and enhance the academic excellence of the Classics Department by the appointment of a scholar with internationally recognized expertise. Area of specialization within Hellenic studies is open: any field of ancient Greek literature or culture except archaeology will be considered. In addition to research the new colleague will teach graduate students and undergraduates at all levels, will share in the leadership of the Department, and will contribute to the Department's collaborations within the larger community of the University. The appointment will be made at the level of Full Professor, but applicants at the rank of Associate Professor with exceptional records of scholarship and teaching will be considered.
