The Department of Classics at Knox College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor for the Winter and Spring terms of 2016. The teaching load will be two courses per term, one in Elementary Greek and one in Classics in translation, with the possible addition of a reading tutorial in Greek with a small number of advanced students. We seek an energetic person who has a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching. Previous experience teaching Greek is essential. PhD preferred, but ABDs will be considered. Compensation is pro-rated based on a full-time faculty salary and the position includes benefits.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, transcript (unofficial is acceptable), one chapter-length sample of scholarly work, a statement of teaching philosophy with course syllabi, and three letters of reference. The Department is particularly interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their intellectual interests and teaching, to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. Submit applications and supporting material to Professor Brenda Fineberg at classicssearch@knox.edu. Applications will be reviewed beginning October 5 until the position is filled.
