The Department of Classical Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Greek literature at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (no more than four years from promotion to Associate at the time of application), to begin in Fall 2017. PhD must be in hand, or date of defense firmly set, at time of application. We are most interested in candidates whose work engages poetry, outside the epic tradition, and especially Greek drama. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute broadly to our curriculum, from introductory languages and courses in translation through graduate seminars.

Interested candidates should apply online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7882 with a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and a writing sample. We encourage applicants also to submit materials illustrating their teaching experience to date. Applications received by December 2, 2016 will be guaranteed full consideration. Applicants should ask three referees to submit letters of support; these letters must also be received by December 2 to ensure full consideration. Questions may be addressed to Professor William Johnson, Chair of the Greek Search Committee (william.johnson@duke.edu, or Department of Classical Studies, Box 90103, Durham, NC 27708-0103). Preliminary interviews will be held at the Annual Meeting of the SCS in Toronto, January 5-8, 2017.
