Monmouth College, a liberal arts college and member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, announces a one-year, part-time position in Classics, primarily archaeology, for the academic year 2017-2018. Teaching responsibilities, subject to enrollment, will include teaching several half-semester archaeology classes, one half-semester mythology class, and an archaeological lab course. The specific half-semester courses, which allow for considerable flexibility in content, are the following. In the fall semester, the courses to be taught are Roman Archaeology: Romulus to Caesar; Roman Archaeology: Caesar to Constantine; and Mythology: Goddesses and Heroines. In the spring semester, the courses are Archaeology: Civilization; Archaeology: Clash of Civilizations; and Archaeology: Gender and Sexuality. Additional teaching responsibilities each semester include a partial-credit archaeological lab course based on the Monmouth College North American Artifact Collection. The position requires an M.A. in classical archaeology and evidence of teaching excellence; preference will be given to those who have either earned a Ph.D. or who are close to it, and those who have experience with New World archaeology, as well as classical. For more information about the Classics Department and ways that other courses similar to the ones scheduled have been taught, see http://department.monm.edu/classics.

For fullest consideration, candidates should send a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a graduate transcript (a copy or an unofficial version is perfectly acceptable), and contact information (including e-mail addresses) of three people who could provide letters of recommendation if asked. Send these materials, addressed to Dr. Robert Holschuh Simmons, Chair, Classics Search, Monmouth College, by e-mail to facultysearch@monmouthcollege.edu. Review of applications will begin March 30th and will continue until position is filled.
