TEACHING FACULTY OF CLASSICS
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN–MADISON

The Department of Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison seeks applicants for an approved one-year (2022–2023) position of Teaching Faculty of Classics. Applicants should specialize in Ancient Greek language and culture, and be able to teach courses in Latin. The teaching load will be 2/3 or 3/2. Duties will include development and delivery of undergraduate-level courses in Ancient Greek culture, Ancient Greek language, and Latin language; graduate-level courses in Ancient Greek language and contribution to the graduate program in Classics; and participation in departmental activities.

Necessary qualifications include:

•PhD in Classics (or a related discipline) in hand by the time of appointment;

•proven ability to engage students in active, student-centered learning

•collegiality and willingness to contribute to the service needs and professional life of the department

Preferred qualifications include:

•creativity in developing courses in Classical Humanities that engage a wide and diverse audience

•experience with innovative teaching methodologies, including digital humanities

•active research profile and established involvement with professional societies
