Department of English

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for full-time Lecturer positions. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong background in Classics to teach various courses in the humanities, including Classical Mythology, Humanities Division literature courses (Humanities I and II), and possibly other topics in ancient literature and culture. The term of appointment is for one year, but this is potentially renewable for up to seven years. The course load will be four classes per semester. The deadline for applications is June 10, and reviews will continue until all of the positions are filled. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching. Successful candidates are expected to actively participate in the Department's teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate level. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented students is highly desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • A completed PhD in Classics or related field is desirable, but not required.
  • Record of teaching at the college level.

  3. Two-page statement of teaching experience and philosophy;
  4. Teaching portfolio of no more than 25 pages (may include sample syllabi, assignments, student and/or peer evaluations, and sample graded work); and
  5. At least three letters of recommendation which speak to teaching experience that can be provided upon request from the search committee.
