The Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Classical Languages, beginning August 2023. The ideal candidate will be an exemplary teacher-scholar with a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field. Interested applicants should demonstrate a deep commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring, a significant research agenda, and ability to contribute to a vibrant, growing, and strongly interdisciplinary program housed in a highly collaborative World Languages department.

Teaching responsibilities will include six courses per academic year, distributed between all levels of Latin, courses in culture, translation, and reception, and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. The area of specialization is open but preference will be given to those with teaching or scholarship that engages with race, ethnicity, and cultural diversity in the ancient world. Successful candidates will also demonstrate experience in course and curricular design, program development, and student engagement. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

Applicants should send a cover letter, statement of teaching philosophy, current CV, descriptions for one course that they could envision teaching in Latin and one they could envision teaching in the Elon Core Curriculum, and three letters of recommendation to ElonClassicsSearch@elon.edu. Complete applications must be submitted electronically by midnight Eastern Standard Time on December 5th, 2022 to be assured full consideration. Candidates are welcome to contact Kristina Meinking, Search Committee Chair (kmeinking@elon.edu), with any questions.
