The Department of Classics, Arabic, and Jewish Studies at Connecticut College invites applications for a position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics for a term of one year with the possibility of renewal. We are seeking a generalist with an ability to teach core Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies courses at all undergraduate levels. The teaching load is 2/3. Candidates should be prepared to teach Greek and Latin language courses from the elementary to the advanced undergraduate levels and a Classical Civilization course in English called “Women in the Ancient World.” The position will begin on July 1, 2023. ABD in Classics is required; preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. or scheduled to complete a Ph.D. by August 2023.

The Department of Classics, Arabic, and Jewish Studies at Connecticut College houses five full-time faculty members, three in Classics, one in Arabic Studies, and one in Jewish Studies. We are currently considering how Classics might link with other studies of the Mediterranean world, and would welcome a new colleague who would contribute to this conversation. We offer a Classics major with concentrations in Classical Languages, Classical Studies, and Classical and Medieval Studies, a Classics minor with four tracks, and minors in Arabic Studies and Jewish Studies.
