The Department of History at Binghamton University, State University of New York, seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the ancient Mediterranean as shaped by the Greeks and Romans. The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies (CNES) at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning fall 2016. We are seeking an archaeologist whose research and teaching center on the ancient Greek or Roman worlds, broadly defined, in any historical periods post-Bronze Age. Specialization is open, but should offer innovative perspectives on material and visual culture, an emerging focus of interdisciplinary study at Binghamton University.

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY – WINSTON-SALEM, NC

The Department of Classics at New York University invites applications for a position in the field of Greek literature, at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track), to begin September 1, 2016. Application materials should include the following: an application letter, curriculum vitae, a copy of graduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample (c.8000 words).

Responsibilities

Teach seven courses or equivalent per year. Coordination of the digital humanities major from proposal to possible implementation, including course development, student recruiting, internship supervision, and grant writing. Teaching assignments may include courses in digital humanities, ancient and medieval history, and a team-taught course in Bethel’s general education curriculum. General faculty responsibilities include student advising as well as department and committee assignments.

The Department of Art History at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a two-year Post Doctoral Fellowship in the field of Ancient Greek Art and Archaeology. The appointment will be shared by the Departments of Art History and Classical and European Studies and offers a salary of $50,000, a research/relocation allowance and is benefits eligible.

Trinity College is seeking candidates to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Greek Language and Culture, with a specialty in epic and its reception. The successful candidate will teach courses in Greek language and literature and courses in translation aimed at Classics majors and the general student body. A course on the epic tradition (in translation) is expected to be developed. Candidates should have the PhD in hand or expect completion by August 2016.

The Department of Classics at Knox College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor for the Winter and Spring terms of 2016. The teaching load will be two courses per term, one in Elementary Greek and one in Classics in translation, with the possible addition of a reading tutorial in Greek with a small number of advanced students.

The Department of the Classics at Harvard University seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Byzantine Greek language and literature, at the assistant or (untenured) associate professor level. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2016. The candidate’s research and teaching must be broadly gauged so as to enrich the work of Harvard’s wider community of scholars, notably Byzantinists, medievalists, and classicists within and beyond the Department of the Classics, including Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection.

The Department of Classical Studies at Tulane University has been approved to make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor to begin July 1, 2016. We are seeking a specialist in Greek art and archaeology. All requirements for the PhD must be completed by June 30, 2016.
