The Department of Classics at Sewanee: The University of the South invites applications for a one-year appointment as visiting assistant professor in Classical Archaeology and Classical Languages to start in August 2017, with a possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology, Classics, or Anthropology with an emphasis on ancient material culture, or related fields. The position requires demonstrated teaching ability, especially in Latin and classical archaeology, and a strong commitment to innovative, effective teaching in the liberal arts tradition. The teaching load is 3/3, and will include courses in archaeology, material culture, and introductory and intermediate Latin.
