Outreach Prize

I am delighted to report that five strong nominations for the 2012 SCS Outreach Prize have been received. This prize recognizes outstanding projects or events by an SCS member or members that make an aspect of classical antiquity available and attractive to an audience other than classics scholars or students in their courses.

Outreach Events at the SCS annual meeting in Seattle, Washington, January 3-6, 2013

The Outreach Division will sponsor five events at the meeting.

2012 Outreach Prize Citation

At the recommendation of the Outreach Prize Committee the SCS Board of Directors has awarded the 2012 Outreach Prize to James T. Svendsen, Professor Emeritus of the University of Utah, for his work with the Classical Greek Theatre Festival of Utah. Prof.

Election Materials 2012

In August all SCS members in good standing for 2012 will receive instructions for voting in the 2012 election from Vote-Now, the firm we have retained to conduct this election. Members for whom we have a valid e-mail address will receive their instructions via e-mail; all others will receive instructions via first-class mail. Regardless of the method of notification, all members will once again have the option to vote online or to use a paper ballot. The deadline for receipt of paper ballots will be the close of business on Friday, September 28, 2012.

Outreach -- February 2012

I. I am very pleased to be serving as Vice-President for Outreach. I especially thank my predecessor, Judy Hallett, for her outstanding support and guidance.In my first few months on the job, I have been impressed by the Division’s excellent committee members and their strong commitment. Much good work is being done, but there are opportunities to do more.

Tips for Using the Online Submission System 2012

  • All submitters are strongly encouraged to compose their materials in Microsoft Word and paste them into the system’s text boxes. It is also possible to enter text by typing directly into the text field.
  • All submissions must be composed in 11 point Times New Roman font.
  • Abstracts including Greek characters should utilize a Unicode font. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that Greek characters appear correctly.

Eligibility to Submit Proposals in 2012

To submit a proposal to the Program Committee, you must 1) be an SCS member in good standing and 2) create a user account for the online collection system. Further details are given below.

Submission Deadlines in 2012

The table below summarizes the instructions provided in this Program Guide. Note especially that any specific deadlines given below are for electronic submissions by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the stated date. By action of the SCS Board of Directors, all submissions being made to the SCS Program Committee must be made in electronic form through the online conference submission system.
