The Society has again retained Vote-Now to conduct its election of officers, directors, and committee members.  In August Vote-Now will send instructions for voting in this election to all SCS members in good standing for 2017.  Members for whom we have a valid e-mail address will receive their instructions via e-mail; all others will receive instructions via first-class mail.  Regardless of the method of notification, all members will once again have the option to vote online or to use a paper ballot.  The deadline for receipt of paper ballots will be the close of business on September 18, 2017.  Online balloting will close at 3:00 a.m. Eastern time on September 18, 2017

In addition to the usual slates for elected offices and committees, this year's election includes a referendum item.  Members will be asked to approve or reject the text of a new Working Conditions Statement that, if approved, will form part of the Society's larger Professional Ethics Statement and replace the current language on Working Conditions.  The new text is intended to address working conditions of faculty of all ranks, includng contingent faculty.  The text has gone through many iterations in response to comments from the Professional Matters Division, the Board of Directors, and members who sent in comments during the comment period of February 1 - March 1, 2017.

The online ballot will contain links to the election statements of individual candidates and to the working conditions statement.  In addition, several documents relevant to the election are posted here.
