Portions of the annual disbursement received by the Society for Classical Studies and the American Classical League from the Rudolph Masciantonio legacy gift fund will be used to advance the creation of a more inclusive environment in the field of Ancient Mediterranean Studies in K-12 education and offer assistance to teachers of K-12 students and those who are pursuing a career in K-12 education in areas relevant to our discipline (Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classics).
There are TWO types of Masciantonio grants:
- The Rudolph Masciantonio Latin Teacher Grant to Support DEI Initiatives
- The Rudolph Masciantonio Support Grant for Student Teachers of Latin
SCS membership is not required for application to either grant. The Support Grant for Student Teachers of Latin is described below, with information about how to apply. The Rudolph Masciantonio Support Grant for Student Teachers of Latin
This grant provides financial support to replace lost income to a student in an educator preparation program during their semester of practicum (or student teaching) teaching Latin in a K-12 school.
This grant provides up to $3,000 to a student enrolled in a state approved educator licensure program and who will (within six months) be entering their practicum, or student teaching, at a K-12 school teaching Latin or subjects related to studies of the Ancient Mediterranean world. This money is expected to be used for costs of living (e.g.: rent, groceries, utilities, medicines and medical equipment, etc.) during the semester the student-teacher is engaged in practicum. The grant will provided in two installments, one at the beginning of the practicum and one midway through the practicum.
Depending on the amounts of money sought by those applying, the number of applicants, and the committee’s approval of applications, grants may be offered to more than one applicant.
Application Deadlines: November 29, 2024 for the spring semester
The process for submitting applications will be different in 2024-2025 than in past years. To apply, please submit an application through our award, fellowship, and grant application system: apply.classicalstudies.org. The form will open for submissions two to three months before the deadline.
