The Department of Classics at Stanford University invites applications for the post of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Greek or Latin literature, specializing in one or more of the following areas: Latin literature of later antiquity (3rd-7th centuries); Latin poetry of the Augustan period; Greek prose (non-philosophical); post-Classical Greek literature. In addition, we welcome applicants with demonstrated skills in text-based ancillary disciplines (palaeography, epigraphy, papyrology) and broader interests in the theory and history of literature.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and should exhibit the potential to make scholarly contributions of the highest significance and impact. Applicants should be committed to teaching courses in the original languages and in translation, at all levels, as well as to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The annual teaching load is four courses over three quarters. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2024.

The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $112,863 for 2024-25.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
