The Department of Classics and Humanities at San Diego State University invites applications for a one-year appointment (renewable for a second-year contingent upon performance and funding availability) for The David Stepsay Family Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Classics. The Stepsay Fellowship is designed to allow newly completed PhDs adequate time for research, while teaching a minimum course load in classics and mentoring students in the major. The selected fellow will engage in a comprehensive research, teaching, and mentoring experience.

Qualifications

Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in Greek and/or Latin language and literature at all levels and to offer courses in classical literature, world mythology, and culture in translation. The Fellow will teach one course each semester (Fall and Spring), achieve significant progress on a research project, give a public presentation at the end of the year, and participate in the intellectual life of the department and campus. The successful appointee must have received their Ph.D. between July 1, 2020 , and June 1, 2024. The appointment offers a salary of $65,000 per year and is benefits eligible. This is a 12-month appointment beginning July 1, 2024.

Complete dossiers will include: (1) a letter of application, (2) a CV, (3) a 1,000-word prospectus of planned research, (4) a 500 word statement regarding how candidates plan to address questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and research, and (5-7) three letters of recommendation. The dossier should be weighted towards the demonstration of teaching excellence.
