2024 Annual Meeting Update

After the 2023 Annual Meeting, AIA and SCS issued a survey to annual meeting participants about the hybrid conference in New Orleans. That survey revealed both the technical difficulties and frustrations that attendees and presenters encountered with the hybrid set up in New Orleans, and the overall desirability for many of virtual participation, which makes the conference accessible to those who are unable to travel.

SCS Contingent Faculty Grants

In 2023, SCS disbursed $15,000 in Contingent Faculty Grants. This is the second year of the program, which is funded from the Society's Research and Teaching Endowment. The selection committee made seven awards on two tracks: (1) professional development and (2) financial aid.

The awardees this year are Justin Michael Colvin, Lissa Crofton-Sleigh, Alice Gaber, Valeria Tezzon, Daniel Schindler, and two anonymous awardees.

LCC Award Nominations

The LCC and WCC hosted a reading of this year’s prize-winning papers on June 14, 2023 via Zoom. Each year, the WCC and LCC recognize published and unpublished work by graduate students and faculty with juried awards that are announced during the opening night party at the SCS annual meeting. The reading group revisits the winning published work in the summer, so that attendees can share reactions, insights for classroom use, and potential applications for research.

As of Wednesday July 5, the Placement Service is publishing, on the current ads page, job ads with application deadlines falling in academic year 2023-24. Job seekers can subscribe or resubscribe to the service for the new academic year at any time. Institutions can place job ads at any time.
