The Gaius Charles Bolin Fellowships at Williams College promote diversity on college faculties by encouraging graduate students from underrepresented groups to complete a terminal graduate degree and pursue careers in college teaching. The fellowship was established in 1985 to address the shortage of faculty of color in US colleges and universities.

In Memoriam: Anthony Podlecki

Dr. Anthony "Tony" Podlecki, beloved husband of Jennifer Grube Podlecki, died on Monday, July 31, 2023. Beginning his academic career as a professor at Northwestern, he went on to head the Classics departments at Penn State and UBC. In addition to teaching, 'Podders' (as he was affectionately dubbed by his UBC's Arts One class) published research, articles, books and translations, becoming a frequently sought-after resource on Ancient Greek History and Literature.

NEH Institute for K-12 Educators: “The Ancient Olympics and Daily Life in Ancient Olympia: A Hands-On History”

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced a $175,000 grant to fund the Institute for K-12 Educators, “The Ancient Olympics and Daily Life in Ancient Olympia: A Hands-On History”, directed by SCS Members Nathalie Roy (Glasgow Middle School, Baton Rouge, LA) and Bob Simmons (Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL). The Institute will be held at Monmouth College next summer, July 7-20, 2024.

The application and more details about the program will follow in December.
